Check Your Gut Health to Break Through Your Weight Loss Plateau
Okay, last time we talked about what alcohol does to your body.
I found a great gallery full of before and after pictures of people who stopped drinking completely. To be frank, these pictures are telling a lot.
Anyway… today’s special tip is about your belly health and its role in weight loss, and the risk of other diseases…
Plateau Buster #15
Check Your Gut Health
Did you know that our gut is home to approximately 100 trillion microorganisms? Our brains can’t even comprehend that number.
That means that the human gut contains 10 times more bacteria than there is in the entire rest of our body. What I’m trying to say here, is that it’s very important to keep your gut healthy. A recent study has shown that obesity, to some extent, is related to microorganisms in our guts (1). Another study indicates that gut microbiota is also associated with type-2 diabetes (2). And what surprised me the most is that studies seem to indicate that gut microbiota has an effect on our brains in the forms of chronic stress and depression (3) (4). Amazing. I think all this scientific research has made a point of how important maintaining healthy gut flora is.
But let’s get back to our main goal: weight loss. So, the thing is that modern life, with all the refined sugars and carbohydrates, chronic stress, infections, antibiotics etc., screws up our gut.
To restore your gut flora, you should eat a LOT more fermentable fibers (such as berries and other fresh fruits or vegetables). Some other methods include reducing stress levels (see Zen meditation), taking high-quality probiotics or treating possible present gut parasites.
That’s it for today. Let’s keep in touch, I will see you soon!
