One question that I get asked more than any other…
Well, other than “does hypnosis really work”?
That question is: I have hit a plateau, how do I move forward past it and continue to lose weight?
Well, you’re not alone…
So what do Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, and you (if you’re looking to lose weight) all have in common? It’s simple. Every one of them hits plateaus from time to time. Wikipedia defines a plateau as a state when the human body no longer positively responds to exercise as it has been previously experiencing. At a plateau, the body has become accustomed to the exercise, and a change in the routine may be necessary to overcome it.
So basically, it’s 100% completely normal to encounter plateaus in life. Ok, cool. But the million dollar question is how to break through them. Plateaus are normal, especially when it comes to losing weight, and they are a result of either Physiological or Metabolic Adaption. Basically we get in a rut or comfort zone.
I will share with you one of the easiest plateau busters that you can apply to your life right now. Then over the next several weeks, I will share with you the rest. If you have read some of my email mini-courses, you know that I practice a teaching technique called “chunking”. What that simply means is I do not want to overwhelm you with information overload. Instead, I share a little bit each time, and in this way your brain is better able to process and retain the information.
And here’s one last thing for those of you with analytical personalities. Your natural tendency is to be critical of information verses being in a creative state of mind. I know you may have “heard it all before”, but hearing and internalizing something are two different states, so …

Plateau Buster #1
Eat A Breakfast Appetizer
That’s right. Eating a few bites of food in the morning as soon as you wake up can actually create a metabolic cycle causing a release of blood sugar into your bloodstream. By burning through the blood sugar, you may start burning fat much quicker. The best way to look at this is it would be similar to waking up and working out on an empty stomach. Since there is no food in system, the body would release blood sugar, and then stored fat. The best part of this is for the non-breakfast eaters (maybe that’s you).
Let’s face it; most people skip breakfast because it makes them hungry all day. Being hungry means being out of control, and that’s not good. However, by eating a few bits of food, such as a couple slices of an apple, or a spoon or two of yogurt, it will start your metabolism but not make you hungry. According to the National Weight Control Registry, 78% of the people enrolled in the study eat breakfast every day, and registry members have lost an average of 66 lbs. and have kept it off for 5.5 years.
